GARDEN STATE
Dir. Zach Braff - Fox Searchlight
Lead Storyboard Artist
This was my big break, while still in school and interning I met another kid who was working on his junior thesis at NYU. I figured it made a lot of sence to get involved with this guy and help him out. So we spent 3 consecutive Sundays together and boarded his whole thesis film.
Something happened there, I remember watching him leaf through the stack of pages over and over again as we finished. He was psyched and confident that he could make his movie. I'd never seen someone so appreciative.
About 2 week later Dan Schrecker got a call from Line producer Ann Ruarke who hired me on the spot for Large's Ark, later renamed, Garden State. The only reason I think I had a shot at the gig was from knowing for the first time That I could sit down with another human and take their words and thoughts and show them back to them in just a few minutes. And they were excited and happy and turned on by the process.
Zach had a sense of humour and leadership ability that would make you feel at home within moments of meeting him.
Ann, Zach and DP. Larry Sher were amazing and gracious. They showed me the ropes, over the course of about 10 weeks I boarded the whole film for them.
